Don't worry, of all the psychic types out there an Espurr is one of the last I'd recommend. Also, don't get a Slowpoke.
Abra is a good choice, though it's somewhat difficult to work with in its first stage. Once fully evolved to Alakazam, though, it's an asset to any team. There's also Beldum, if you prefer hybrids. Steel and psychic make for an excellent combination, and Metagross is very powerful.
